The skies were grey on Saturday November 18th, but failure was not an option at the US Marine Corps Toys for Tots bike run. The police escort delivered over 300 riders safely to Miller’s Ale House in Levittown where the Levittown FD had the American Flag flying high above the ground for all the motorcycles, military and hot rods to pass under, it was quite a sight to behold. The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year. They distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community. Retired Major Chuck Kilbride USMC, is the Executive Director of Toys for Tots in Nassau County, and the person who runs this admirable campaign. I had the opportunity of speaking with John Gravagna, Vice Chairman for the TFT program.

The Run is sponsored by the Tier Rats Law Enforcement MC and Miller’s Ale House of Levittown & Deer Park LI. Lance Wolff, Assistant Manager, at Miller’s Levittown tells me, “There is a lot to do all year long, but we love putting it all together…to see joy on children’s faces is priceless!” Nino Recine, General Manager, shared that sentiment saying, “It’s all about the kids”. Steve Breitman, President, and Stan, V.P. of the Tier Rats LE MC, work tirelessly throughout the year gathering sponsors for the tee shirts and other duties to ensure this run is a success. Registration began at 8:30 A.M. at Miller’s Ale House in Deer Park and included breakfast. Kickstands went up at 11A.M. and it was off to Miller’s Ale House in Levittown for an amazing lunch prepared by Miller’s own, Hipolito Hernandez, kitchen manager. In attendance was Anthony Rovet, Divisional V.P. of the North East for Miller’s Ale House Corp. There were all kinds of raffles and giveaways. Major Chuck Kilbride emceed the event, with a special blessing bestowed to all by Father Ralph from St Bernard’s Church.

Raising the bar on this event was a performance of God Bless America, by opera singer, Christopher Maccio. It sent a roar through the hundreds who attended. Other guests included Nassau County Executive- Elect Laura Curran with an entourage of other local officials. One honorable and distinguished guest taking part was Lieutenant Colonel James Sweeney, Inspector Instructor, Commander of Long Island US Marine Military Base, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines and his lovely family. I’d be remiss if I did not mention some other notable sponsors who gave: Kristy Walles and Donna Nicosia with Overseas Military Sales Corp., Military Movers Of America, Shahid Mehmood & family, Glenn Partition Inc., Mineola Moto.com, Hassell Auto Body & Towing, Allstate Insurance; Shawn Cohen Agency, Motorcycle Mike Esquire, Fanatico Italian Bistro & Bar, Renegade Pigs MC Fairfield County CT, Levittown FD, Sloman’s Shield, FOP Lodge 69 Of Nassau County, Disciples Of Law LEMCNY, A&M Accounting Services, Omega Gama Delta Zeta Chapter Of Nassau County, Work N Wear Uniform, Minuteman Of Hewlett, Happy Tails Dog Grooming, Legion Riders Post 1033, NEFCU Banking, C.O.B.A. NYC DOT, Forsaken Guns LEMC.

It’s was nice to see Antoinette Biordi interviewing from News 12 Long Island. Many different motorcycle MC’s, organizations and independents came from near and far. As the day was winding down the Marines and Santa Claus loaded boxes and boxes of toys on their trucks, you could feel the anticipation and excitement from all of us, just imagining those children in need getting their toys! After all, isn’t this what Marines Corps Toys for Tots is all about? It’s so wonderful this time of year to be a little nicer and give to those in need.

Happy Holidays to You All!
