Chamber of Horrors NY

Story & photos Lee Sheridan

This amazing haunt was established 13 years ago and is the brainchild of Marty Arominski, Matt Guiliano, Robert Frankenberg and Joe Cuminale. During the first 8 years of the haunts existence it acted as a fundraiser at local F.D.’s including N. Lindenhurst and W. Islip F.D.’s., as well as C.P.I. in Hampton Bays. It is currently housed in Hauppauge, LI. Each year a portion of the proceeds raised benefit local charities including Make-A-Wish Foundation, Camp Adventure-Kids Need MoRE, FTM Toy Drive, Leathernecks M.C. and DJ Joey Nuccio’s annual ‘Christmas Visit’ for sick children.

Chamber of Horrors NY is fun for big kids of all ages, little ones would not do well walking through the 70 rooms of terror. I have visited the haunt several times and although it was fun…I was scared sh*t! As you approach the entrance leading to the rooms filled with mutilated, twisted and deranged beings, you are greeted by Coffin Joe (Joe Cuminale aka Cowboy) who is the original character of the haunt. Once inside and if you dare…it comes time to visit the 70 separate rooms of demonic horror where you will be harassed by a serial killer cop (DJ Joey Nuccio), your life threatened with a chainsaw by Leather Face (Bug Man,Hillbilly), and tormented by redneck serial killer and make-up artist (Adam Capperelli). These are just some of the characters who lurk inside the walls of the haunt, and to keep things completely terrifying, the rooms and themes are changed each year.

It takes 2-3 weeks to build and orchestrate Chamber of Horrors. Some of the props are built by the founders and others are purchased when they visit Trans World, the largest haunt tradeshow in the country, located in St. Louis, MO.  If you like to have the daylights scared out of you, then you need to visit Chamber of Horrors NY this fall. If you like to be on the delivering end of the fright, auditions are held in August and early September and are listed in Newsday’s Auditions column. The Chamber of Horrors NY returns on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 28th-Halloween night. For more info
