Since the commencement of the “Who Cares Committee Inc.” these individuals have dedicated themselves to raising money on the behalf of the disabled children of Long Island. To achieve this, they conduct fund raising events throughout the year such as BBQs and toy collections for the holidays. All their events are sanctioned and insured by the AMA (American Motorcycle Association).
Over the years these events have benefited organizations such as the St. Christopher’s Treatment Center, the Guide Dog Foundation, the Make a Wish Foundation, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, the Sarah Grace Foundation for Children with Cancer, The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and other charitable organizations that assist children with disabilities. Those who belong to the Who Cares Committee Inc., as well as those who support them, have voluntarily given their time, labor and money in the true spirit in which this committee was formed.
For the 31st consecutive year, this committee has set aside the second Sunday in December for their Annual Toy Run. The weather kept up its end of the bargain as many took to the road to ride collectively in an effort to bring the children of St. Christopher’s Residential Treatment Center the joy of the holidays. For many of these children, this event is their Christmas.
Once the good dead of delivering the toys was complete, Santa and his elves, along with over 150 riders headed to the VFW Hall in Hicksville, LI for food, entertainment by ‘The Basement Boys and raffles.
