September 5th – Best Buy Theatre New York City.

Twister sister lead guitarist Jay Jay French has been an advocate and major fundraiser for the Ocular Immune Uveitis Foundation since his daughter was diagnosed with disease. This benefit concert raised thousands of dollars to help fund research for a cure of a disease called Uveitis and was the second concert that Jay Jay French along with his band mates from Twisted Sister has performed with proceeds benefiting OIUF, and it probably won’t be their last.

The show opened with Kill Code, followed by Adrenaline Mob, and ended with Twisted Sister an d was emceed by That Metal Shows Don Jamieson. The performances by all the bands involved were stellar! Jay Jay French brought his beautiful daughter Samantha out to the stage, and introduced Dr. Foster to the audience.. some of whom were like “what the hell is this???” well they found out soon enough the real reason behind this concert.. and LEARNED about a disease that can help prevent blindness, if detected in its early stages.  Who says you can’t learn something from Rock n Roll!

About the Disease:

Uveitis is an inflammatory eye disease. The disease inflames the Uvea, the middle lens in the eye and is linked to the auto immune system.

Uveitis is the third leading cause of blindness in the USA and the leading cause of blindness of American girls, in the United States. Jay Jay French’s daughter Samantha was diagnosed in 1999 at the age six, and it was discovered in a routine eye examination. There is no cure, but early detection and treatment can save ones sight by stopping the attacks of inflammation that destroys the uvea.

The Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Foundation is the nation’s leading non-profit organization dedicated to finding the causes and cure for ocular inflammatory disease. Their mission is:

  • To find cures for ocular inflammatory diseases
  • To correct the worldwide deficit of properly trained ocular immunologists
  • To provide education and emotional support for those patients afflicted with ocular inflammatory disease.

The Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Foundation (OIUF) is a national non-profit organization, based at the Massachusetts Eye Research and Surgery Institution in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and is the nation’s leading non-profit organization dedicated to finding the causes and cure for ocular inflammatory disease and surface diseases and is the only national organization exclusively serving individuals, families and friends affected by such disorders.
