St. Pat’s Annual Car Show

St. Patrick’s School Annual Car Show & Family Fun Day

Story & photos by Cowboy

On Sunday April 30th the student body and parents from St Patrick’s School in Smithtown held their 12th Annual Car Show/Fundraiser to assist in keeping the school up and running. Over the years this show has grown to be a favorite amongst car collectors and enthusiasts thanks to the tireless efforts of John Forlenza, the school alumni and to the students and their families. My friends, Fonzie & Chachi from Night Train Entertainment returned to rock steady, while the students were busy prepping the tables to serve breakfast to all those who had vehicles in the show. Vendors are always in abundance at this show and display antique license plates, jewelry, crafts and most anything one would vend at a show of this type.

The show always makes sure to remember fun activities for the kiddies and so bounce houses, slides and games were available to partake in near the backend of the field. As the vehicles began to roll in, I am always amazed to see my favorites from movies & T.V. shows. Officers from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department displayed their impressive armored assault truck for folks to look at and take a tour through. They even offered a safe driving course set-up for the kids to try their hands at. Celebrity vehicles that took to the red carpet included the police cruisier from the original MAD MAX movie, the Trans-Am & Sheriff’s Car from Smokey & the Bandit, K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider, the classic Impala from the T.V. Series-SUPERNATURAL and the new L.I. GHOSTBUSTERS crew. In all, there was over 200 vehicles in the show, which warranted the opening of the field area behind the school as to extend the show car parking.

Now it was time to open the gates and let the crowd of supporters in to view these awesome machines. Just when I thought I had seen every type of outrageous vehicle ever created, in rolled this year’s show stopper- a totally custom Helmet Car, created by Bohata Design, Inc. (A Father/Son Fabrication Team). This is one totally awesome rig that needs to be seen in person to truly be appreciated!  John, “You have your work cut out for you next year, if you plan to top this year’s show.” Thank you to all those who participated in this year’s event, everyone had a fantastic day and thousands were raised for the school. Thank you to John & his outstanding crew for their hospitality & dedication!

See y’all on the road folks. Drive safe and rock on!
