Still Cruisin’ Car Club Invades St. John’s
Story & photos by Cowboy
On a sunny and very warm, summer Sunday, the members of the Still Cruisin’ Car Club gathered in the parking lot of St. John the Baptist H.S. in West Islip preparing for the annual Frank Bigelow Memorial Car Show. Frank was a member of the club and a worker at the H.S., who passed away from Kidney Cancer a few years ago. Family & friends created this show in Frank’s memory to raise funds and awareness for this disease. Before Frank was diagnosed with kidney cancer he was in the process of restoring an old beauty, unfortunately the disease took Frank before he had the chance to finish the project, so his son carried on his father’s efforts and completed the restoration. Frank’s car completes the lineup of show cars that fill the lot at St. John’s.
As I arrived bright and early at the show there were almost 25 cars already on display, and a long line down the side street waiting to register & park. With the DJ spinning classic rock & 50’s tunes to match the classic cars. Raffle prizes which featured everything from car detailing packages to gift cards from local businesses, and everything in between were flying off the tables to many lucky winters. My $20 worth of raffle tickets netted me 3 very cool prizes. As I was ready to be on my way, another thirty or so cars/trucks had arrived, with another small convoy rolling in off the Causeway. The day was successful and everybody had a wonderful time. The most important part of the day was that money was raised for the Kidney Cancer Association, to help those who are afflicted with these deadly disease and to provide funds for research.
Thank you to the Bigelow family, the Members of the Still Cruisin’ Car Club, the staff and students from St. John’s, and most of all to the families that came out to show their support for a great cause and to remember a Fine Man. I look forward to seeing y’all again this Spring. Drive safe folks!
