May 20 – May 22, was when the Rock’N Derby held their inaugural event that took place at the Schaghticoke Fairgrounds located in Schaghticoke, NY.

I have probably been to about 20 weekend music festivals in my lifetime, and I have to put Rock’N Derby as one of my top 5.

The stages were close enough that you didn’t need a nap going from one to the other, but far enough that you weren’t distracted by the other stage performances – and there were over 40 acts entertaining festival goers during this 3 day event. There were plenty of vendors, good food, and a few inside bars as well. Non-stop music began upon the opening of the gates each day.

On Sunday May 22nd, SIXX:A.M. one of the closing bands, took to the stage. Rock’N Derby was one of the stops during their “Prayers for the Damned” tour. I will say that it was well worth it to stand in the rain (briefly) and watch their show. The rain certainly didn’t stop them from being one of the weekend’s top performers. Their music is powerful and forceful. The interaction between the band and the fans during their live performance is something that many bands can’t even come close too.  It was also amazing to be able to meet and speak with DJ Ashba.  He is very appreciative of his fans, and always takes the time to sign autographs and take photos with them.

About SIXX:A.M. They are a hard rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 2007 by Nikki Sixx, DJ Ashba, and James Michael, and is the side project of Sixx, who was also the bass guitarist for Mötley Crüe. The name SIXX:A.M. is a combination of all of the member’s last names (Sixx, Ashba, Michael).
