Rolling Thunder Chapter 1 NY 1st Annual Gold Star Family Ride

Story & photos by Cowboy

On a delightful Sunday morning, members of Rolling Thunder Chapter 1 NY, held their 1st Annual Gold Star Family Ride at the American Legion Post 336 in Glenwood Landing/Glen Head. Chapter President, Mike Palo and event coordinators, Deborah & David French, were on site early to get things going and start lining up the early bird attendees.

As riders pulled in, they were treated to bagels/coffee and juice after signing up for this 1st time event, which is organized to Help Gold Star Families in Need. The Ladies from the Nassau County Chapter of the Blue Star Mothers of America were on hand to help with registration and serve lunch upon the riders return. As the time approached for kickstands to go up, approximately 75 bikes and their riders were blessed before embarking on their journey. Upon returning to the Legion for lunch, the hall was jumping with the sounds of Lawrence Talbot & the Wolfpack playing old tyme rock & blues. A total of $2660.00 was raised to help our Gold Star Families in need.

I would like to thank the members of The American Legion Post for the use of their space, the members of Rolling Thunder Chapter 1 NY for their Hospitality, and to The Blue Star Mothers for all their help, from picking up the donated sandwiches for lunch, to making sure all those coming out to show their support were fed. Thank you to all riders/non-riders that came out to show their support. Most of all-to the Gold Star Families, who have suffered the loss of a loved one defending our freedoms! Never forget- Freedom is not Free, someone always pays the price! May the good spirits watch over all our men & women of America’s Armed Forces! And thank you for your service!
