This is the time of year when everyone who rides in the Northeast is revving up their engines and getting out in the wind. It is also time for riders and their bikes to receive anointed blessings from above that will watch over us as we maneuver our way on the roads, and safely return us home. To help ensure our safe travels, on April 17th, The Riders of Fire MC hosted their 13th Annual Blessing of the Bikes to many riders from the local LI area and as far away as upstate NY, Jersey and CT. A centipede of over 450 bikes made their way from Applebee’s in Farmingville, to The Shrine of Our Lady of the Island in Manorville.  Upon arrival the riders and bikes were blessed by Fr. Hugh Gillespie, S.M.M., and afterwards everyone was treated to a light lunch. Each year, the ROF MC donates one hundred percent of the monies raised from this ride to benefit many worthy causes. A monetary donation is made directly to The Shrine and the remaining funds are distributed to various local and surrounding charities. Included in the list of recipients are; The Burn Center at Stony Brook, Firefighters Cancer Research Program, The Fireman’s Home in Upstate New York, and to firefighter’s who endure medical hardships throughout the year. Some of these charities also serve our community during the Christmas holiday season through the Adopt a Family Program, which assists local families enduring medical hardships.

The Riders of Fire MC is made up of volunteer firemen from Long Island, Connecticut, and NYC firefighters. To learn more about, or to join the Riders of Fire NY 1 MC visit facebook.com/groups/118387534916484/

The Shrine of Our Lady of the Island was established in 1953 by the Missionaries of the Company of Mary in order to be a center of authentic Marian Spirituality & Devotion, and to renew Catholic life in the Diocese of Rockville Center through liturgy, preaching & pilgrimages. ROF MC wishes to thank all their sponsors, supporters and the motorcycle community for helping to make this bike blessing a success year after year.
