Operation: MindCrime

Live photos/review by Momma Dukes

Operation: Mindcrime is a hard rock band that is fronted by Muliti-Platinum selling artist Geoff Tate, the original voice and songwriter of Queensryche, and features current members such as Simon Wright – Drums, Tim Fernley – Bass, Randy Gane – Keyboards, Kelly Gray – Guitars/Vocals and Scott Moughton – Guitars/Vocals. The band is touring in 2016 in support of the new album “The Key” (released as part of a trilogy September 2015).
The show at the Paramount NY on March 2nd featured 4 songs off of the new album plus countless Queensryche hits that included Silent Lucidity, Eyes of a Stranger, Jet City Woman and I Don’t Believe in Love. It pretty much was a “relaxed” version of Queensryche, with Geoff putting his own personal spin on songs associated with his former band. Musically this band was rock solid and “The Voice” himself can still belt them out and send chills through your spine with his vocal range. Geoff also played the saxophone – who knew?
The venue itself as always was great, however the turnout was a bit on the light side. If you came to the show as a “Queensryche” fan you might have been slightly disappointed with the renditions of your favorite QR songs. If you came as a Geoff Tate fan however, you got your monies worth and then some.
Operation Mindcrime is still touring and will be back in the New York area in April, so visit the website for more tour info and upcoming shows in your area. http://operationmindcrime.com
