LI Street Rod Show

LI Street Rod Association Spring Car Show & Swap Meet

Story & photos by Cowboy

This well attended car show, which takes place at Suffolk Community College in Brentwood was once again a huge success. More than 200 custom and classic cars, trucks, and a few of my favorite, rat rods welcomed enthusiastic spectators. Like at most shows, I crossed paths with some friends that I haven’t seen since last season ended. The Crew from the Road Lords Car Club were out in full force, along with a few other well-known car clubs that I haven’t seen all winter. The Boy Scouts from local Troop-125 were cooking up breakfast for those with cars in the show, vendors setting up their wares for the swap meet section, as well as the early bird spectators and shoppers. With everything from old license plates to cool looking old school kiddie cars, and everything that you could imagine in between was there for the taking.

The swap meet side of the show was packed with shoppers looking for that special treasure for their collections. My friends from the newest chapter of Rolling Thunder were on hand with a table to promote their never ending mission to help our Veterans in need. Thank you ladies & gentlemen, keep up the great work. I also got to meet and speak with L.I. racing legend, Marty Himes, the man who has raced at every track on L.I. including Freeport, Islip, Riverhead and even a few spots that most people never knew about. He was on hand with some of his past racing cars and other nostalgic items from the Himes Racing Museum. Thank you to all the members of the L.I. Street Rod Association for their Hospitality, and to everyone who brought out their fine machines for all to admire. The 2017 car show season is now in full swing. See y’all on the roads folks. Drive safe and rock on!
