EJ Potter, the Michigan Madman,” built a continuously evolving “widow maker” Chevy powered drag bike over the years, a crazy machine with the V8 mounted sideways and direct drive to the rear wheel. When the engine was fired and up to speed, he kicked out the stand and off he went in a cloud of tire smoke, aiming the bike the best he could. It certainly was a hair raising feat.

The motorcycle delivers 500 hp and broke the record back in 1973. Guinness Book of World Records awarded EJ Potter’s V8 Dragbike “Widowmaker 7” the coveted title of “World’s Fastest Motorcycle”. This alcohol driven beast also held three AHRA world records going 8.68 @ 172 mph.

This past January, Widowmaker made its way to Bonhams auction in Vegas with an estimated hammer price of  $65,000 to $85,000, which is a small price to pay given that this was once the fastest motorcycle in the world. The Widowmaker 7 failed to meet its reserve price and was not sold.
