2nd Annual Bikers Against Heroin Run

Story & photos by Cowboy

This year’s Bikers against Heroin 2nd Annual Overdose Awareness Run (In Memory of Jake) was a success. With over 200 riders & passengers coming together to raise awareness for this addition/disease that has become a huge epidemic nationwide and right here on Long Island. Heroin is claiming lives every day and taking away our children at an alarming rate. This year’s ride started at Renegade’s in Deer Park and ended at the THRIVE Recovery Center in Hauppauge. Thrive is the 1st L.I. Recovery Center, who offer many informative programs along with a staff who are knowledgeable about the destruction that heroin causes its victims.

With music provided by the local bands: One2Many, and Razor Blade Romance, folks were rockin’ in the Thrive parking lot. Inside the center two special speakers from L.I.’s recovery community, David Flood and Tatiana Green shared their stories and recovery experiences with many. If their story can help save 1 life, it’s well worth it. This event raised $6200.00. Bikers against Heroin N.Y. Chapter donated $3,200 to THRIVE and $3,200 to a community action group – Social Justice Harm Reduction. I would like to say thank you to B.A.H. officers, Linda Alagna and Linda Gomez for arming me with knowledge about this horrific epidemic and the event. Special thanks to Linda A for the Narcan training and to all who came out to show their support for these dedicated group of people. Break the silence folks, it’s the only way to battle the monster of addiction! Ride safe folks!
