Big Sandbar Antique Motorcycle Club of LI Annual Show

The Big Sandbar Antique Motorcycle Club of Long Island, held their annual motorcycle and car gathering this year at one of my personal favorite locations on Long Island-The Bayport Aerodrome. Big Sandbar, is the L.I. Chapter of The Antique Motorcycle Club of America which present classic motorcycles from Harley Davidson, Indian, BMW and even a Royal Enfield. Also in attendance at this show were classic cars and trucks of all makes and models such as antique racers from the late 1920’s Vanderbilt Cup Races. I was covering this event for the motorcycle section of FTM, so although I mention cars and planes, I was there to shoot the antique motorcycles, which you see here. The coordinator of this year’s event decided to not include a swap meet in order to have more space for classic cars, trucks and motorcycles. This decision proved to be the right choice, with over 90 cars/trucks, 45 motorcycles and about 10 antique aircrafts on display (and flying). The crowds of spectators strolled the grounds of the serene Long Island (unknown to most people) treasure. The Aerodrome also had its museum open for visitors so they could learn about its History.

Music was provided by the talented, young musicians from the Route 111 band, and The Aerodrome’s own grill masters took care of preparing all the food. It was a splendid way to spend a beautiful Sunday on Long Island. Thank you to the folks from Big Sandbar for choosing such a great location. Many thanks to the staff and pilots from the Bayport Aerodrome for their hospitality (and a few history lessons). And of course, thank you to all those who displayed their rides in the show, and to the spectators for attending.

Ride, drive and fly safe folks!
